Comments Off on Message of Condolences and Prayers from the People Called Methodist to Archbishop Leo Cushley
Dear Archbishop Leo
On behalf of the people called Methodist across Scotland I write to extend our condolences and prayers to our siblings in Christ in the Roman Catholic Church in Scotland, and to the members of the Bishops Conference on the news today of the death of the Bishop of Rome, His Holiness Pope Francis.
Pleased be assured of our prayers in the coming days. And may Francis rest in peace and rise again in glory.
Almighty God, we thank you that you continue to call disciples to represent you on earth. We recognise this call in the life, faith and ministry of Pope Francis. We give thanks for the unique gifts with which you blessed him for this task, and for his obedience in fulfilling all that you asked of him. Thank you for receiving Francis into the eternal home that you have been preparing for him. We pray that all who mourn his loss will be comforted and for the Conclave that will elect his successor. We hold before you the Roman Catholic Church and pray that we might continue to work together for the unity of your Church and for peace, justice and compassion in your world. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
The situation following the earthquake in Myanmar remains desperate. More than 3,400 people have died and hundreds of people are still missing. Many more have no access to the safe shelter, clean water, food and medical care they need to survive. The Methodist Church in Britain remains in contact with our partner, the Methodist Church Upper Myanmar, offering prayers and solidarity.
Did you know that the Methodist Church has a dedicated programme to support people who are exploring a vocation in the church?
When you register on The Explore Programme, you will be offered support through:
Reflecting with an Accompanist
Journaling your experiences
Shadowing people involved in work of the kingdom of God
A range of learning & development resources and support to dip in an out of
Being part of a group who learn together on a 9 month course
You can register up at any time of year, although the course element has two cohorts a year and usually runs from September – May, and May- January.
There is a Taster session for the May 2025 Cohort on Thursday 24th April 7-9pm and the booking link is here. The sooner you book to join the Programme, the sooner we can assign you an Accompanist, the sooner you will get the film about journaling, and the sooner you can talk with your church leader about your emerging vocation.
