Exploring Vocation

Did you know that the Methodist Church has a dedicated programme to support people who are exploring a vocation in the church?

When you register on The Explore Programme, you will be offered support through:

  • Reflecting with an Accompanist
  • Journaling your experiences
  • Shadowing people involved in work of the kingdom of God
  • A range of learning & development resources and support to dip in an out of
  • Being part of a group who learn together on a 9 month course

You can register up at any time of year, although the course element has two cohorts a year and usually runs from September – May, and May- January.

There is a Taster session for the May 2025 Cohort on Thursday 24th April 7-9pm and the booking
link is here. The sooner you book to join the Programme, the sooner we can assign you an Accompanist, the sooner you will get the film about journaling, and the sooner you can talk with your church leader about your emerging vocation. To register for all of this support please click here.

Volunteer with us at Festivals and Events

For several years now the Methodist Church has been popping up at festivals and events across the country – from Cliff Fest to Cheltenham Literature, Solas to Silverstone – and this year is no different. Each year, at every event, our volunteer teams play a vital role in helping this work come to life.

Could you join us as a volunteer at one of the many festivals and events we attend across the country? Our sign-up form is now live! Visit our brand new Festivals and Events webpages to find out where we’ll be heading this year, what we’ll be up to and how you can get involved.

Safeguarding changes

Thank you to all who attended the online Safeguarding Clinic last week. We had a successful session discussing Safer Recruitment, the process for volunteers (current and new) and the related documentation that should be held by local churches.

As a charitable body the church has responsibility for safer recruitment, this responsibility lies with District Synod, Circuit meetings and local church councils. We want to have safety at the heart of our Methodist communities so we follow the 12 steps from the policy. PDF summary. This starts by the responsible body i.e. church council, having a recruitment and selection policy. There is a template version of this available to save reinventing the wheel. The policy then has further detail as to the 12 steps and how to determine volunteer role outlines.

A reminder that we have online Foundation Safeguarding training coming up on evening of 6th May 25. Please register at Scotland District Creating Safer Space: Foundation Module (Online) Registration, Tue 6 May 2025 at 18:45 | Eventbrite

Some of you may be aware that there are changes coming into force from 1st April 2025 regarding PVG scheme membership. I will be sending out further information but for now if anyone works with/has non-incidental contact with children or protected adults within their role they MUST by law as of 1st April 25 have a PVG. Please contact your circuit safeguarding officer or myself if you believe you require a PVG for the role you currently have but do not have one.

International Development Budget Cut

Churches call for rethink of international development budget cut
Leaders from the Baptist, Methodist and United Reformed Churches and Church of Scotland criticised proposed cuts to the international development budget, saying it “would break a manifesto promise made to people in the world’s poorest communities, and have a devastating impact on lives and livelihoods across the globe.”

Speaker from the Leprosy Mission

As part of their ‘Revive’ campaign, the Leprosy Mission is looking to partner with churches across Scotland to bring awareness of leprosy, share Christ’s love, and inspire hope and healing in communities worldwide. https://stories.leprosymission.org.uk/revive/index.html

If churches are interested in learning more, they can invite a speaker to offer a tailored talk that includes:

  • Stories of transformation and healing through this mission
  • Biblical insights on compassion, justice and healing
  • Practical ways your church can get involved in bringing hope to those affected by leprosy.

To arrange a speaker, or for more information please email StevenM@LM.org.uk
