Mission & Service

Each of our congregations offers to all who wish to join an opportunity to discover more about the work of God in the world and their lives,  to worship Him and to become participants in His purposes.

Within Scotland

  • Our congregations belong to  the communities in which they are placed; the parts they play are remarkably varied. Some projects are highlighted in Journeys in Faith.
  • Presbyters and deacons provide chaplaincy services in various areas of the nation’s life, including prisons, universities, schools, retirement homes and a theatre.
  • We have two VentureFX pioneers connecting with people where they are, exploring new expressions of church.
  • Action for Children is the current name of the children’s charity founded by Methodist minister Thomas Bowman Stephenson in 1869. See more about their work in Scotland.
  • Methodist Homes provide retirement accommodation in Scotland, as well as care homes in other parts of the UK.
  • The Methodist Church in Scotland is one of the core funders of FiSCAF, which helps local faith groups working in areas of deprivation in Scotland.
  • The Methodist Church in Scotland is one of 13 Christian denominations and organisations on the board of Scottish Churches Housing Action, which helps churches and others make practical responses to the challenge of homelessness in Scotland.
  • The Methodist Church in Scotland was one of the founders in 1998 of the Scottish Churches Parliamentary Office.
  • The Methodist Church in Scotland is a founder member of Scottish Faiths Action for Refugees, set up in 2016.

In the Wider World
