AtaLoss is a national charity dedicated to helping bereaved people find the support and wellbeing
they need.
With support from a Benefact Trust Community Impact Grant, AtaLoss is developing the Loss and HOPE project – a project that equips churches across the UK to provide essential bereavement support to their communities.
This project will provide churches with training and resources, as well as equipping them to run The Bereavement Journey®, a 7-week course to support those who have been bereaved.
Want to be involved in bereavement support at your church? In this short video, we sit down with Katy Tutt from AtaLoss to discuss what we need to know about grief and the role of the church in providing bereavement support.
This service has been prepared by Methodist Women in Scotland.
All We Can have produced this resource to help churches explore and embody the ‘Practices of Justice’ from the Methodist Church’s Justice-Seeking Church strategy.
This is not to encourage churches to start lots of new initiatives, but to help congregations ‘move the dial’ towards better ways of doing justice in what they are already doing. The sessions feature games, prayer activities, videos, and practical suggestions around the areas of Being With Not For, Humility in Community, Self-Awareness and the Use of Power, Transformation, and Prayer.
These are now available at Scottish Methodist Gathering on You Tube.
Asbestos remains in millions of homes and buildings today and it can become dangerous when disturbed or damaged. HSE is currently running 2 asbestos campaigns to highlight the risks of having and/or dealing with Asbestos:
Asbestos and You – This campaign is more for tradesperson and it highlights the risks they need to watch out for especially when carrying out building works on buildings built before 2000.
Asbestos – Your Duty – This campaign raises awareness of the legal duty to manage asbestos in buildings. The HSE website guidelines include information on
• what the legal duty is, and steps required to comply with the law
• who the duty holder is (depending on the type of building) and what they must do
• new templates of an asbestos management plan and asbestos register
• examples of how asbestos can be managed etc.
You can also listen to the podcast on the duty to manage asbestos by clicking here
Historic Environment Scotland have produced two pieces of guidance that would help managing trustees who look after historic buildings.

During Black History Month in October, Methodist churches are invited to show the film After the Flood: the Church, Slavery and Reparations and begin a conversation about responding to the lasting damage caused by the transatlantic traffic in enslaved Africans.
“While this topic is not an easy one, it is vital that we engage with it. This material should help to resource our conversations, our reflections and our commitment to action.” – The Revd Helen Cameron, President of the Methodist Conference.
Register to watch the film. This can only be done in a Methodist Church context.
