The Synod of the Methodist Church in Scotland met in Stirling and on Zoom on September 21st 2024. The meeting happened in the context of The Gathering, an opportunity for Methodists from across Scotland to gather in person for a weekend of worship, learning and fellowship. Revd Prof David Wilkinson and Deacon Eunice Attwood were key note speakers at The Gathering and it was a delight to have them with us to help us in our thinking.
Synod members were encouraged to join in with as much of the activity over the weekend as possible and so the business of the Synod was kept to a minimum. Reports were shared, representatives to Conference were elected and Synod was delighted to hear from Deacon Eunice Attwood about New Places for New People from a Connexional perspective, and from Katie Bradley about Place for Hope and the Methodist Way of Peace Programme. A new environmental policy for the District was adopted.
A conversation was had about The Theology of Safeguarding report adopted by Conference 2021, particularly exploring how we might better hear the voices of, and respond to the concerns of, survivors of abuse.
