Methodist Leader Dr Jill Barber
Jill Barber, Vice-President of the Methodist Conference, is to present a BBC Radio 4 Appeal on Mothering Sunday in support of All We Can’s work with women in some of the world’s poorest communities.
The appeal will air on Sunday 6 March at 7.55am, before being repeated at 9.25pm the same day and again at 3.25pm on Thursday 10 March.
Dr Barber is a keen supporter of All We Can and was inspired to support this appeal after visiting one of the Methodist relief and development charity’s projects in India in November 2015.
Dr Barber said: “I was really impressed with the way All We Can’s partners know the communities they work in. In India I saw this through the local partner’s work with women in particular. Women have now been able to come together in self-help groups, gain independence and also make a difference to their families and villages. I found this project, and the people I met, truly inspirational.”
The Radio 4 Appeal will be broadcast on Mothering Sunday, a day when many people reflect on the importance of special women in their own lives. It will contribute to All We Can’s wider Inspirational Women Appeal, which is running throughout Lent.
Maurice Adams, Chief Executive of All We Can, said: “We are delighted that Jill is presenting the BBC Radio 4 Appeal on our behalf on 6 March. She has been a great supporter of our work and we are honoured that she gave her time to visit India and then voice this appeal. This is a wonderful opportunity for All We Can to share our work with the wider British public.
We hope that this appeal will enable us to help people in some of the world’s poorest communities to become all that they can, as well as raise awareness of the challenges facing many women in the world today. Please support us by tuning in and giving on the day.”
